2 7:11And on the next day he went to a city called Nain, and a considerable number of his disciples and a great multitude went with him. 7:12And as he approached the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was carried out, an only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a great multitude from the city was with her. 7:13And seeing her, the Lord had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not. 7:14And approaching he touched the bier, and those who bore it stopped. And he said, Young man, I tell you, arise! 7:15And the dead sat up, and began to speak; and he gave him to his mother. 7:16And fear seized all; and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is raised up among us; and, God has visited his people. 7:17And this report of him went out into all Judea, and into all the region around.

3 7:18And his disciples told John of all these things. 7:19And calling two of his disciples, John sent to the Lord, saying, Are you he that was to come, or look we for another? 7:20And coming to him the men said, John the Baptist has sent us to you to say, Are you he that was to come, or look we for another? 7:21And in that hour he cured many of diseases, and plagues, and of evil spirits, and gave sight to many blind. 7:22And Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard; that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the good news preached to them; 7:23and blessed is he who shall not be offended with me.

4 7:24And when the messengers of John had gone away, he said to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with a wind? 7:25But what went you out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold, those who wear fine clothes, and live in luxury, are in royal palaces. 7:26But what went you out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 7:27This is he of whom it is written; Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you. 7:28I tell you, that among those born of women there is no greater prophet than John; but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 7:29And all the people who heard this, and the publicans, justified God, having received the baptism of John. 7:30But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been baptized by him.

5 7:31[And he said], To what then shall I compare the men of this generation? and what are they like? 7:32They are like little children sitting in the market, and they call to each other, saying, We have played on pipes to you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not lamented. 7:33For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon. 7:34The Son of man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold a glutton and a wine drinker! a friend of publicans and sinners! 7:35And Wisdom is justified by all her children.

CHAPTER X.

CHRIST ANOINTED BY THE WOMAN, HIS TRAVELS AND ATTENDANTS, THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER.

1 7:36AND one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him; and going into the Pharisee's house he reclined. 7:37And behold, a certain woman in the city, a sinner, knowing that he was reclining in the house of the Pharisee, brought a vase of ointment, 7:38and standing behind, by his feet, weeping, washed his feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head; and she kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 7:39And the Pharisee who invited him, seeing it, spoke within himself, saying, If this was a prophet he would have known who and what kind of a woman this is who touches him; for she is a sinner.

2 7:40And Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he said, Teacher, say it. 7:41A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed him five hundred denarii [$70], and the other fifty [$7]. 7:42And having nothing to pay, he gave [the debt] to both. Tell me, therefore, which of them will love him most? 7:43Simon answered and said, I suppose the one to whom he gave most. And he said to him, You have judged rightly. 7:44And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I came into your house; you gave me no water for my feet; but she has wet my feet with tears, and wiped them with her hairs. 7:45You gave me no kiss; but she, from the time that I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet. 7:46You anointed not my head with oil; but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 7:47Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she has loved much; but he to whom little is forgiven, loves little. 7:48And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven. 7:49And those who reclined with him said within themselves, Who is this that forgives sins also? 7:50And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

3 8:1And he travelled in order through the cities and villages, proclaiming and preaching the good news of the kingdom of God; and the twelve were with him, 8:2and certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, from whom went out seven demons, 8:3and Joanna the wife of Chusa, Herod's steward, and Susannah, and many others, who served them with their property.

4 8:4And a great multitude having come together, and persons having come to him from every city, he said in a parable, 8:5A sower went out to sow his seed; and in his sowing, some fell by the way, and was trodden down, and the birds of heaven devoured it; 8:6and some fell on the rock, and springing up it was dried up, because it had no moisture; 8:7and some fell in the midst of thorns, and the thorns springing up choked it; 8:8and some fell on good ground, and growing up bore fruit a hundred fold. Having said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
