P: One among them said: Kill not Joseph but, if ye must be doing, fling him into the depth of the pit; some caravan will find him.

S: A speaker from among them said: Do not slay Yusuf, and cast him down into the bottom of the pit if you must do (it), (so that) some of the travellers may pick him up.

012.011 Y: They said: "O our father! why dost thou not trust us with Joseph,- seeing we are indeed his sincere well-wishers?"

P: They said: O our father! Why wilt thou not trust us with Joseph, when lo! we are good friends to him?

S: They said: O our father! what reason have you that you do not trust in us with respect to Yusuf? And most surely we are his sincere well-wishers:

012.012 Y: "Send him with us tomorrow to enjoy himself and play, and we shall take every care of him."

P: Send him with us to-morrow that he may enjoy himself and play. And lo! we shall take good care of him.

S: Send him with us tomorrow that he may enjoy himself and sport, and surely we will guard him well.

012.013 Y: (Jacob) said: "Really it saddens me that ye should take him away: I fear lest the wolf should devour him while ye attend not to him."

P: He said: Lo! in truth it saddens me that ye should take him with you, and I fear less the wolf devour him while ye are heedless of him.
