They did not climb in hope of gain,
But at stern duty’s call;
They were united in their aim,
Divided in their fall.

Forsaken in some desert vast,
Where never human being dwelt,
Or on some lonely island cast,
Unseen, unheard, I still am felt.
Brimful of talent, sense, and wit,
I cannot speak or understand;
I’m out of sight in Church, and yet
Grace many temples in the land.
