“Mr Daniels, who is senior lecturer in economics in the University of Manchester, was greatly helped in writing this historical sketch of the cotton industry from the sixteenth century to the death of Samuel Crompton by the discovery in the upper storey of one of the mills owned by Messrs O’Connel and Co., Limited, at Ancoats, of a number of ledgers, correspondence files, etc., dealing with their business for the period 1795–1835.
