Outstretched beneath the moon, and with one breath

She sprang to meet the outstretched arms of Death,

The only god that waited for her there,

And in a gathered moment of despair

A hideous thing her trait’rous life did seem”;

and the other

And so stole forth, and, making no delay,

Came to the rock a-nigh the dawn of day;
