It decorates our Capitol
Shadowed by Stripes and Stars.
In all our barracks, posts and forts,
It plays a leading part
And the jolly sailor loves it
And enshrines it in his heart.
It may stand for United States
Or yet for Uncle Sam,
But there’s still another meaning
To this simple monogram.
