Elizabeth. Why?

Teddie. I want you altogether or not at all.

Elizabeth. You’re so arbitrary.

Teddie. You said you—you said you cared for me.

Elizabeth. I do.

Teddie. Do you mind if we talk it over now?

Elizabeth. No.

Teddie. [Frowning.] It makes me feel rather shy and awkward. I’ve repeated to myself over and over again exactly what I want to say to you, and now all I’d prepared seems rather footling.

Elizabeth. I’m so afraid I’m going to cry.
