MIDWINTER
JOHN T. TROWBRIDGE
The speckled sky is dim with snow,
The light flakes falter and fall slow;
Athwart the hilltop, rapt and pale,
Silently drops a silvery veil;
And all the valley is shut in
By [flickering curtains] gray and thin.
