KORAN, or ALKORAN.

The sacred book of the Mohammedans, written about A.D. 610 by Mohammed, and published about 634 by his successor, Abu Bekr. Its contents are believed by Mohammedans to have been communicated to Mohammed by the Angel Gabriel during a period of twenty-three years. The book was first translated by George Sale in 1734.
