RIDE A COCK-HORSE

Ride a Cock-horse to Banbury Cross,

To see a fine lady ride on a white horse;

With rings on her fingers, and bells on her toes,

So she shall have music wherever she goes.

CURLY LOCKS

Curly locks, curly locks, wilt thou be mine?

Thou shalt not wash dishes, nor feed the swine;

But sit on a cushion and sew up a seam,

And eat fine strawberries, sugar and cream.

A FROG HE WOULD A-WOOING GO

A frog he would a-wooing go,

“Heigh-ho!” said Rowley;

Whether his mother would let him, or no,

With a rowly, powly, gammon and spinach,

THERE WAS A LITTLE MAN

There was a little man,

And he said “Little maid! will you wed, wed, wed?

I have little more to say,

Then will you? yea, or nay!

For least said is soonest mended, ded, ded, ded.”

The little maid replied,

(Some say a little sighed),

“But what shall we have to eat, eat, eat?

Will the love that you’re so rich in,

Put a fire into the kitchen?

Or the little God of Love turn the spit, spit, spit.”

A LITTLE COCK SPARROW

A little cock-sparrow sat on a green tree,

And he chirrup’d, he chirrup’d, so merry was he:

A naughty boy came with his wee bow and arrow,

Determined to shoot the little cock-sparrow.

“This little cock-sparrow shall make me a stew

And his giblets shall make me a little pie too:”

“Oh, no!” said the sparrow, “I won’t make a stew,”

So he flapped his wings, and away he flew.

HUSH-A-BY BABY

Hush-a-by baby on the tree-top,

When the wind blows, the cradle will rock;

When the bough breaks the cradle will fall,

Down comes baby, cradle and all!
