XIII.

Der Erbprinz von Hanau an den Earl von Suffolk.

Hanau, 4. December 1776.

Sir,

The kings gracious determination about the subsidy relative to my Artillery in his Majesty's service gives me a new proof of his goodness to me, especially as it does not deprive me of all hopes in seeing once succeed the project I had the honor to direct to you, Mylord, and which I have so much reasons to wish.

The offer, Malsburg made you, Sir, in my name of a corps of Chasseurs for the kings service in America demands only a positive and prompt resolution. My attachment for the best of kings is the only thing which can determinate me to this new undertaking. Col. Faucitt will have told you how I work when I once have a hint of the kings intentions. If I have soon your answer, I'll begin immediately. I refer myself to Malsburg's letter to you, Mylord, and have the honor to be forever with the utmost consideration and greatest friendship, Mylord, your most humble and obedient servant and attached friend

William H.P. of Hesse.

P.Scr. If perhaps there are no chasseurs wanting in Canada, those I offer can serve in New York under Gen. Howe, as the king pleases.
