Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD “AUNT LYDIA’S” HEAVY RUG YARN
1—70 yd. skein White for mini size;
2—70 yd. skeins for medium size and
3—70 yd. skeins for large size
Aluminum Crochet Hook Size H OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
Scrap Black yarn; scrap Red felt; ¾ yd. narrow ribbon
GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch
MINI
BODY: Ch 3, join to form a ring, ch 3, (counts as 1 d c), 14 d c in ring, join in top of ch 3. 2nd ROUND: Ch 2, working in back loop of sts only work 1 sdc in each st (sdc: yo hook, insert in st, pull through, yo and work off all loops at one time), join in top of ch 2. Repeat last round 6 times, cut yarn.
TOP: Ch 3, join to form a ring, work 8 d c in ring, join. 2nd ROUND: Ch 2, 1 sdc in each st, join. 3rd ROUND: Repeat last round. 4th ROUND: Ch 2, 2 sdc in each st, join. 5th ROUND: 1 sdc in each st, join, cut yarn.
POMPONS: Work 8. Wind yarn 20 times over a 1 inch cardboard, slip off cardboard, tie in center, cut both ends. Trim into shape. Tie pompons in position as illustrated: EYES: Wind a scrap of Black yarn 4 times over index finger, cut yarn, slip off finger, tie in center and attach in place. MOUTH: Cut 2 sections of red felt; each section ⅝ x ⅜ inches. Round edges of one side. Overcast 2 sections tog and sew in place. Finish with ribbons.
MEDIUM
BODY: Ch 3, join to form a ring, work 11 d c in ring. 2nd ROUND: Working in back loop of sts throughout work 2 sdc in each st. 3rd ROUND: Work 1 sdc in each st, join. NEXT 10 ROUNDS: Repeat last round, cut yarn.
TOP: Ch 3, join to form a ring, ch 3, work 11 d c in ring. NEXT 5 ROUNDS: 1 sdc in each st. NEXT ROUND: 2 d c in each st. NEXT 2 ROUNDS: 1 sdc in each st, cut yarn. MOUTH: Cut 2 sections red felt ¾ x ½ inch. Round edges of one side and overcast tog. Sew in place. Work eyes and finish with ribbons same as small size.
POMPONS: Work 8. Wind yarn 30 times over 1½ inch cardboard and finish same as mini size.
LARGE
BODY: Ch 3, join to form a ring, ch 3, work 15 more d c in ring (16 d c), join. 2nd ROUND: Working in back loop of sts only throughout d c in same space, 2 d c in each st (32 d c). NEXT ROUND: Do not join this or following rounds, place marker at beg of each round. Work 1 sdc in each st. Repeat last round 16 times, s c in next 2 sts, sl st in next st, cut yarn.
TOP: Ch 3, join to form a ring, ch 3, 11 d c in ring, place a marker. 2nd ROUND: 1 sdc in each st. Repeat last round 4 times. NEXT 2 ROUNDS: 2 sdc in each st. NEXT ROUND: 1 sdc in each st, sl st in next st, cut yarn.
POMPONS: Work 8. Wind yarn 55 times over a 3 inch cardboard, slip off cardboard, tie in center, cut both ends. Trim into shape and attach in position as illustrated. MOUTH: Cut 2 sections red felt each 1¾ x ¾ inch. Round edges of one side. Overcast the 2 sections tog and sew in place. EYES: Wind a scrap of black yarn 6 times over index finger, slip off finger, tie in center and attach in position. Work other eye to correspond and finish with ribbons as illustrated.
