St. ½–1in.; l. lower, ovate-acuminate, nerved, reddish, upper larger ovate-lanceolate entire, nerve ceasing below apex, margins plane; stems bearing gemmiferous cups, l. of which are obcordate; caps. (fruit not found in England) elliptical, with a red border at mouth, on a long reddish seta.
