ÆTHELRED II., 840-848.
About two thousand coins of this king were found at Hexham. Some bear his own name and that of his father Eanred. The name is spelled EDELRED, EDE[L]RED, AEILRED, AEDELRED, or AEDILRED, R or REX; and the reverse, the moneyer’s name and a device; the varieties of moneyers’ names numbering about a hundred.
