XLVIII.

French.

La saincteté trop faincte & seductive,

Accompagne d’une langue diserte,

La Cité vieille, & Parme trop nastive,

Florence & Sienne rendront plus desertes.

English.

The fained and seducing holiness,

Accompanied with a fluent tongue,

Shall cause the old City, and too hasty Parma,

Florence and Sienna to be more desert.

ANNOT.

I know not what he means by the old City, unless it be Rome, by reason of its antiquity.
