CHRISTE QUI LUX ET DIES.
Christ who art the light and day,
Drive the shades of night away,
Thou, who art the Light of light,
Make our pathway glad and bright.
Now we pray thee, holy Lord,
Keep us safely by thy word;
Night and day at peace in thee
May our spirits rested be.
Let no evil dream appear,
Let no enemy draw near,
Let us bow to thee alone,
Thou who pitiest thine own!
While in sleep we close our eyes,
May our hearts forever rise
Unto thee, whose mighty hand
Keeps thine own in every land.
Look upon us, our Defence!
Drive all lurking traitors hence,
Rule thy children, O most Good,
Who are purchased with thy blood.
Be thou mindful of our state,
In this body profligate;
Guard our minds, and ever be
Near us, Lord, as we to thee.
