Encoding
The Haida language in this work is written with a number of additional symbols (see the [Introduction]), some of which are common punctuation marks. To disambiguate those marks and make processing easier, those marks have been replaced with more specialized Unicode characters that look similar. Their use also make the text slightly more readable.

A number of additional characters and combinations appear that are not explained in the Introduction. These have been left unchanged.
Since the titles of stories are set in small-caps, it is not possible to distinguish small-caps styled a from the special letter ᴀ. When unsure, they have been encoded as a, but where possible, the special letter ᴀ has been restored in such cases. The upper-case of ʟ is not defined in Unicode (and would be hard to distinguish from a regular upper-case L). However, cases of Ḷ are always the uppercase variant of ʟ̣.
Hyphenated Haida words have been restored, using a soft-hyphen character, except when the unhyphenated word is present in the text, in which case the hyphen is removed or retained as the case may be.
Repeated words and phrases in songs were indicated with |: … :|, these have been replaced with the Unicode musical repeat signs 𝄆 … 𝄇.
All end-notes have been moved in-line in the TEI file, and will appear as end-notes again in the finale generated HTML versions. Some notes have been renumbered as a result.
This book contains three main parts, in the first part, the English translation and intralinear text were placed underneath each other on the same page, in the second part, the translation and original text were placed on facing pages, with the English left and Haida right, and finally, in the third part, we only have English translations. In unpaged media, this cannot be reproduced, so here I have placed the intralinear text after the English in the first part and placed the English and Haide side-by-side in the second part.
