This essay, now republished for the first time, is attributed to Hazlitt by Mr. W. C. Hazlitt (Memoirs, etc., I. xxix) and by Ireland (List of the Writings of William Hazlitt and Leigh Hunt, p. 76). The MS., in Hazlitt’s hand-writing, is still in existence.
