1: nous faire aimer: to win her affection. Lit., «to make (her) love us.»—chacun de notre côté: each one for himself.
2: votre affaire: the very thing. Lit., «your business,» «the thing you want.»
3: la Saône: (pronounced Sône) flows into the river Rhône at Lyons.
4: bêtises: nonsense, i.e. anything he would not like his daughter toread. Note the polite salutations between the customer and vender in French.
5: C'est égal: All the same. Lit., «It is an equal (i.e. indifferent) matter,» or «never mind (about the rest), still I should like to,» etc.
6: Tableau: Business, i.e. a certain amount of dumb show goes on,travelers bustle in, etc., before the curtain drops.
