Die beiden erst genannten „Briefe” waren soviel ich glaube von Lloyd, Bischof von Saint-Asaph. Sheridan sagt: „Die Erklärung des Königs gefiel Niemandem und wurde in England in burleske Verse travestirt.” Ich glaube nicht, daß sich in irgend einer jakobitischen Schrift eine Vertheidigung dieser unglücklichen Erklärung findet. Ein heftiger jakobitischer Schriftsteller sagt in einer 1693 gedruckten Replik an Dr. Welwood: „Was die im vorigen Jahre erschienene Erklärung betrifft... so versichere ich Ihnen, daß sie vielen, ja fast allen Freunden des Königs eben so sehr mißfiel als sie von seinen Feinden verachtet wurde.”
