I take the liberty to present to you Mr. Francis Lieber, one of your own countrymen, who has lived so long in the United States, that he has become, no less one of mine. He is now professor in the University of South Carolina, and is well known both in this country and in England as the author of several important works on Political Economy and Legislation, as well as the Editor of the American Conversations Lexicon. I have known him many years and commend him to you, as a man of talent and great knowledge, of a faithful and excellent character, whose acquaintance, I am sure, it will please you to enjoy.
Mrs. Ticknor and myself always remember with peculiar pleasure Dresden and above all the delightful evenings, we spent there with you. It grieves me to think you are no longer there; — how much more must it grieve Mad. de Lüttichau. Pray offer the affectionate regard of both of us to her, when you see her or write to her.
