Empalement. Cup double; the outer one is three-leaved; leaflets egg-shaped, pressed to the inner ones, and tiled; the inner is four-leaved, with larger leaflets, and fringed.

Blossom cylindrically pitcher-shaped, sweet-scented, and of a pale purple; segments of the border are rolled back.

Chives. Eight hair-like threads; tips crested, and within the blossom.

Pointal. Seed-bud turban-shaped, slightly covered with wool, with honey-cups at the base. Shaft thread-shaped. Summit four-cornered.

Native of Portugal.

Flowers from the month of March till July.
