Leaves by threes, awl-shaped, three-sided, and mucronated; furrowed beneath, and smooth on the upper surface, flat, and of a deep green colour.
Flowers grow by threes at the ends of the small branches, hanging down, with very short foot-stalks.
Empalement. Cup double, the outer three-leaved; leaflets lance-shaped and harsh; the inner four-leaved, and longer than the outer.
Blossom cylindrical, of a yellowish white; the segments of the border spreading, and of a deep purple.
Chives. Eight threads flat and close together, forming a tube; tips beardless, without the blossom, and spreading.
Pointal. Seed-bud turban-shaped. Shaft thread-shaped. Summit four-cornered and hollow.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from August till October.
