Leaves by fours, smooth, linear, and blunt-ended.

Flowers terminate the branches singly, spreading out, and forming a scattered spike. Footstalks very short, and furnished with three floral leaves.

Empalement four-leaved: the leaflets at the base are ovate, toothed, and awl-shaped at the end.

Blossom curved, club-shaped, an inch long, red, with a whitish border; segments expanded.

Chives. Eight hair-like threads; tips beardless, and within the blossom.

Pointal. Seed-bud turban-shaped, and furrowed. Shaft thread-shaped, without. Summit hollow.

Native of the Cape of Good Hope.

Flowers from July till January.
