GRANDMA’S FAVORITE GINGERBREAD

2½ cups sifted enriched flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon double-acting or 1½ teaspoons cream of tartar baking powder

1 teaspoon ginger

2 teaspoons cinnamon

½ teaspoon cloves

½ cup shortening
