Much is supposed to depend upon which day of the week a child is born. The following rhyme is well known, though it varies slightly in different localities; this is a Devonshire version:

Tewsday’s cheel is vull of grace.
Wensday’s cheel is vull of woe.
Thezday’s cheel hath var tü go.
Vriday’s cheel is loving and giving.
Satterday’s cheel work’th ’ard vur a living.
Zinday’s cheel’s a gentleman.
