HANDBAG—Join 30 Daisies (see Chart) as for Top of Beret. Edge—Repeat Row 1 of Edge on Beret Top across short side at each end of Bag piece. Join to corner B (see Chart) and repeat Edge to ***, then repeat from * to *** once and from * to ** once. 1 dc and 1 hdc in next sp, sl st in corner p. Fasten off. Repeat on remaining 3 long sides. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 of Edge.
Gusset—In Gray, ch 26, sk last st, 7 sc, 7 hdc and 10 dc on ch, 9 dc in end st, 10 dc, 7 hdc and 7 sc on other side of ch. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in 5 sts, hdc in 5 sts, dc in 15 sts, (2 dc in next st) 7 times, dc in 15 sts, hdc in 5 sts, sc in 5 sts. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, 27 sc and 1 hdc, 5 dc in next st, 1 hdc, 4 sc and 1 hdc across end, 5 dc in next st, 1 hdc and 27 sc. Ch 1, 6 sc across end. Fasten off. Make 2.
Tab—In Gray, ch 8, 7 sc on ch. (Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in last sc, 1 sc in each sc across) 15 times.
Edge—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in last sc, 1 sc in each sc across, 3 sc in end sc and work sc around with 3 sc in each corner. 1 more sc in 1st corner, sl st in 1st sc. Ch 1, 2 sc in same st, (make sc across with 3 sc in corner st) twice, make sc across end, 2 sc in corner, ch 10, turn, sl st back in last corner, ch 1, turn and cover lp with sc, 1 sc in same corner, make sc to next corner, join and fasten off.
Button—In Blue, ch 2, 6 sc in 1st st. In back lps make (2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (1 sc in next, 2 sc in next) 6 times, sc in 36 sc (3 rows). (Sk 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc) 6 times. Stuff hard with cotton and close opening with sl sts.
Handle—In Gray, ch 2, (3 sc, 2 hdc and 3 dc) all in 1st st. In back lps, make 1 dc in each st around and around for 14”. End with 1 hdc and 1 sc and close with sl sts. Fasten off. Make two.
Pin Bag, Gussets and Tab right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth. Cut buckram slightly smaller than large piece. Bend it sharply crosswise 1” each side of center to form bottom of bag. Cover each side of buckram with felt, stitching tog. around edge and on each bend at bottom. Cut 3 pieces buckram to fit bottom, cover with felt and glue or stitch to bottom of lining. Sew lining inside bag. Cut buckram to fit each Gusset. Bend lengthwise in center. Cover on one side with felt and sew on back of each Gusset. Sew a Gusset in each end of bag, going thru 1 lp of each st. Fasten Handles at top of Gussets. Sew wide end of Tab at top of Daisies on back of bag. Sew button on center Daisy at top of front and button Tab over it.
