Changes made
Illustrations and tables have been moved out of text paragraphs. Footnotes have been moved to directly underneath the paragraph to which they refer.
Some obvious minor typographical and punctuation errors have been corrected silently. In tables, the ditto-symbol has been replaced with the dittoed text and some data have been re-aligned for consistency and legibility.
Temperatures (°F and ° F) and densities (°B and ° B) have been standardised to ° F and ° B, dimensions and multiplications to m × n, salt petre and variants to saltpetre.
