Ayotochcuitlatla. [Where armadillo excrement abounds.] Compounded of ayotochtl (armadillo); cuitlatl (excrement); tla (place of abundance).

Ayotzintepec. [Place of the little calabashes.] Compounded of ayotli (calabash); tzin, a diminutive particle; tepetl (mountain); c (in, where). Tepec may often be rendered place. Some authors make this name, “place of little turtles,” from ayotl (turtle).
