THE VERB.—SLOVESO.

The infinitive of all the Bohemian verbs—with very few exceptions—ends in ti.

When we detach this suffix -ti from the infinitive of the Bohemian verb we get the infinitive stemkmen neurčitého způsobu.

This infinitive stem of the Bohemian verb (and as a matter of fact of verbs of all the Slavic tongues) has six different forms according to which the philologists divide the Bohemian (and all the Slavic) verbs into six classes.

In this book, however, for practical reasons, the verbs will be divided according to the endings of the present indicative into four groups, and further subdivided according to the infinitive, imperative and participle forms.

Verbs whose present indicative or participle is formed by changes of the root will be treated as irregular. Example: jíti, to go; jdu, I go; šel jsem, I went.
