[2290] The words of Pindar are,
ἄμπνευμα σεμνὸν Ἀλφεοῦ,
κλεινᾶν Συρακοσσᾶν θάλος, Ὀρτυγία.
The French translators have rendered them,
“Terme saint du tourment d’Alphée
Bel ornement, de Syracuse Ortygia!”
And Groskurd,
“Ehrwürdige Ruhstatt Alpheos’.
Ruhmzweig Syrakossai’s, o Du Ortygia.”
