Other vegetables may be used—carrots, radishes, Jerusalem artichokes, bean sprouts. Brazil nuts, thinly sliced, are also good.
Fried noodles may also be served with the chop suey mixture to add crispness.

3 tablespoons chicken fat or butter or margarine
2 tablespoons flour
½ cup milk
1 cup chicken broth
Salt and pepper
½ green pepper, diced
½ cup mushrooms, cut in pieces
