Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon; or of the Sabbath days. ([Col. 2 : 16].)
The Sabbath Instituted because God Rested the Seventh Day.
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. ([Ex. 20 : 11].)
The Sabbath Instituted for a Very Different Reason.
And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched-out arm; therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day. ([Deut. 5 : 15].)
No Work to be Done on the Sabbath under Penalty of Death.
Whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. ([Ex. 31 : 15].)
They found a man that gathered sticks upon the Sabbath day.... And all the congregation brought him without the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses. ([Num. 15 : 32, 36].)
