TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE

In the first part of this HTML book, the combination of vowels in a single syllable occurring in synæresis and synalœpha is marked with an overline spanning all the vowels joined, as in “Será alma” in [page xxxi]. In the printed book this was indicated with a curved arch above the letters ⁀ similar to the sign used in musical notation for ties and slurs.

Changes to the original publication (possible typographic errors or inconsistencies) have been marked with a dotted underline, and the printed text may appear in a “pop-up box” when hovering the cursor on it. There is also a list of changes [at the end of the book].
