Yes, dearest parents, my devotion to study
Consumes the best strength of mind and body,
And generally even the night is spent
In meditation deep and intent.
In the pulpit soon I shall take my station
And try my hand at the preacher’s vocation
Likewise I dispute in the college-hall
On learned subjects with one and all.
But don’t forget to send me the ducats,
For I long so much to replenish my pockets;
