H. Bolingbroke Mudie.

Esteemed Collaborators and Readers,

The year 1905 is drawing to a close, and I take the opportunity of sending the good old wish for A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.

Never has our language enjoyed a year so prosperous as the present, and there is every indication that progress will be maintained. Readers are more numerous, and they naturally expect the national and international gazettes to become enlarged accordingly.

The Index of our last twelve numbers shows that our many talented writers have provided material for a most interesting series, and we hope that Esperantists will read our two volumes with pleasure and profit in the years to come.

A magazine, the contents of which are literary rather than newsy, has a permanent interest, and we therefore regard the volume as a noteworthy addition to the Esperantic Library.

The editing and management of an international magazine is an onerous undertaking, involving more time than my present daily occupation will allow for the growing needs of this gazette. We have, therefore, had to make new arrangements for the future.

Henceforth the two British magazines will join forces. The British Esperantist, with its chronicle and national articles, and our old The Esperantist will appear under one and the same cover.
