Armando Palacio Valdés, b. 1853 in the Asturias. Palacio Valdés is a journalist and novelist. He began as a realist, but his later works have become more and more idealistic. He is a careful, direct writer, elegant in diction, and he excels in psychological analysis. Palacio Valdés and Pérez Galdós are probably the strongest and the best known Spanish novelists of today.
