- Ils trouveraient, s'ils continuaient de chercher, they would find, if they continued to look.
- Si madame Milligan demeurait sur les bords du lac, elle les apercevrait, if Madam Milligan lived on the lake shore, she would see them.
1. Dans ces deux phrases, le verbe de la proposition principale est au conditionnel présent et le verbe qui suit la conjonction si est à l'imparfait.
2. En français, lorsque le verbe de la proposition principale est au conditionnel présent, nous employons toujours l'imparfait après si.
V. Thème
If the artists should find a good inn, they would spend the night there. The innkeeper would give (a) good advice, if they should ask for it. Madam Milligan would hear the music if the artists played near the lake. Were they discouraged? No, because they were sure that they would soon find her in one of the villas on the shore of the lake.
