M. Joli-Cœur was an English general. Remi, the new servant, entered and the spectators burst out laughing. He looked at his master, who was smoking quietly. Evidently he did not like Remi's face. It was not intelligent. And when M. Joli-Cœur invited Remi to breakfast, the poor child showed his stupidity immediately. The clever monkey then took Remi's place and breakfasted.
