C'est la première édition de Burns. L'exemplaire du British Museum porte les noms propres, qui étaient indiqués par des astérisques dans l'impression, écrits de la grande écriture droite et ferme de Burns. Il contient aussi le poème Reflections on a Sick-bed, qui semble aussi être de sa main. Mais un autre poème, Verses written on the Hermitage at Taymouth by Mr Burns, est d'une main différente.

Cette édition est curieuse à cause de la liste des souscripteurs, et surtout à cause du petit portrait de Burns, gravé par Beugo, d'après le portrait à l'huile par Nasmyth, avec de légères modifications. La gravure est peut-être plus réelle que le portrait, certains traits de physionomie paysanne y sont plus indiqués.
