AMERICAN THREAD “AUNT LYDIA’S” HEAVY RUG YARN
2—70 yd. skeins each White and Red

Plastic Crochet Hook Size H OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 7 sc = 2 inches

Directions are given for small size. Changes for medium and large sizes are given in parentheses.

SOLE: With Red, ch 16 (20, 24), work 3 sdc in 2nd st from hook (sdc: yo, insert in st, pull through and work off all loops at one time), 2 sdc in next st, 1 sdc in each of the next 11 (15, 19) sts, 2 sdc in next st, 3 sdc in last st; working on other side of ch, 2 sdc in next st, 1 sdc in each of the next 11 (15, 19) sts, 2 sdc in next st, join. 2nd ROUND: Ch 2, sdc in same space, 3 sdc in next sdc, 2 sdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 13 (17, 21) sts, 2 sdc in each of the next 2 sts, 3 sdc in next st, 2 sdc in next 2 sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 13 (17, 21) sts, 2 sdc in remaining sts, join. 3rd ROUND: Ch 2, 2 d c in each of next 2 sts, 3 d c in next st, 2 d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 7 (9, 11) sts, 1 s c in each of the next 12 (14, 16) sts, 2 s c in each of the next 2 sts, 3 s c in next st, 2 s c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 12 (14, 16) sts, 1 d c in each of the rem sts, join, cut yarn.

UPPER SECTION: With right side of sole toward you, attach White in 4th st from center of toe, working in back loop of sts only work 1 s c in each st all around leaving 7 sts free at center of toe, ch 1, turn. 2nd ROW: Working in both loops of sts work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. 3rd ROW: Skip 1 s c, work in s c dec 3 sts evenly spaced at heel and omitting the last s c, ch 1, turn. 4th ROW: Work in s c dec 1st and last st at each side of toe, ch 1, turn. 5th ROW: Work 1 s c in each s c, work 1 s c on side of next 4 rows, working all around toe of boot, 1 s c in both loops of 7 free sts of toe, 1 s c on side of next 4 rows, join in 1st s c, ch 1, turn. 6th ROW: Skip 1st s c, work in s c dec 2 sts at center of toe, join, cut yarn, turn. NEXT ROW: Attach yarn in 9 (11, 13) st from joining and work to corresponding st on other side; 31 (35, 39) sts, ch 1, turn. Continue in rows of s c skipping the 1st and last s c at each end in every row until 19 (23, 27) sts remain. Work 6 more rows even, cut yarn.

FINISHING: With right side facing attach Red at top of boot, work 3 s c in 1st st, 1 s c in each of the next 2 (3, 4) sts, 1 s c in each of the next 2 (3, 4) sts working over the s c and into the row below, 1 s c in each of the next 3 (3, 3) sts, 1 s c in each of the next 3 (3, 3) sts working into row below, 1 s c in each of the next 3 (3, 3) sts, 1 s c in each of the next 2 (3, 4) sts working into row below, 1 s c in each of the next 2 (3, 4) sts, 3 s c in corner st; then work s c all around dec 2 sts in center of toe, join, ch 1, turn. 2nd ROW: S c in 1st s c, * ch 3, s c in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * to the st before center of toe, s c in next st, ch 3, s c in center of toe, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts, then repeat between *’s all around, join, cut yarn. TIES: With White work a 40 inch ch, cut yarn. Pull ch through loop at center of toe and lace boot as illustrated. Finish other boot in same manner. TASSEL: Wind White 5 times over a 1 inch cardboard, tie one end, cut other end. Fold cut ends tog, then tie again about ¼ inch below 1st tying. Work 4 tassels and attach to ends of laces.
