Cast on 42 sts, and work K 1, P 1 across row. NEXT ROW: P 1, K 1 across 15 sts and place these 15 sts on holder, work across next 12 sts in seed st for instep, place remaining 15 sts on another holder. Work across 12 sts of instep for 1¼ inches ending on wrong side, cut yarn. Sl sts from 1st holder to needle, attach yarn and pick up 10 sts on side of instep, work across 12 sts of instep, pick up 10 sts on other side of instep, and work 15 sts from 2nd st holder—62 sts. Work even in seed st for 1¼ inches. NEXT ROW: Dec 1 st at beg and end of row and 2 sts at center. NEXT ROW: Work even. Repeat last 2 rows twice. Bind off.
UPPER SECTION: On cast-on sts, right side facing, pick up and K 41 sts. NEXT ROW: P across. Work 3 complete patterns. Bind off same as sacque. Sew sole and back seams. Lace ribbon through 1st pattern row.
