Hierher gehört auch die 42. Erzählung der Hundred Mery Talys, ed. by Österley, S. 73 ff. (bei Hazlitt, I, S. 65 ff. hat sie die Nr. 41).

Ähnlich erzählt Melander, Jocoseria, I, Nr. 115, S. 93 ff. (deutsche Ausgabe I, Nr. 78, S. 67) wahrscheinlich nach Bullinger, Contra Cochlaeum ‚:
Alium quendam (nugonem) non puduit omni asseveratione affirmare, se fuisse in regione quadam, ubi apes ovibus magnitudine nihil quicquam cederent. Hoc quam mendacissime ab illo dici, cum vel surdus audiret, quidam ex auditoribus ita illi respondit: Oportet igitur istic quidam alvearia perquam capacia esse. Tum nugo, Non capaciora nostratibus, inquit. Respondit alter iste: Non sunt ampliora nostratibus? Deus bone, quid ego audio! Ecquomodo igitur ingentes istae apes tuae alveria nostratibus haud majora intrare possunt? Cui nugo in mendacio suo veluti mus in pice haerens, totusque pudefactus, respondit: Hujus equidem rei curam ipsis relinquo. Da laß ich sie vor sorgen.
Reichliche Nachweise zu dieser Lügenschnurre gibt Müller-Fraureuth, in den Deutschen Lügendichtungen bis auf Münchhausen, Halle, 1881, S. 58 ff., 72, 127 und 137. Eine nicht unwitzige Variante in den Additamenta, von Hermotimus (hinter Nicodemi Frischlini Balingensis Facetiae selectiores, in der Ausgabe Amstaelodami, 1660) ist ihm aber entgangen; dort wird S. 304 ff. De Apibus Indicis, folgendes erzählt:
Ein aus Indien nach Zeeland heimgekehrter schneidet auf, die Bienen seien in Indien so groß wie in Zeeland die Elstern. »Und die Bienenstöcke?« »Nicht größer als die unserigen.« »Und die Löcher darin?« »Nicht größer als bei uns.« »Wie können sie dann aus und ein?« »Quae ingredi non possunt, illas oportet foras manere.«
