SPECIFIC CHARACTER.

Heath, with beardless tips without the blossom, and black; flowers terminate the branches, and hang down; blossom club-shaped, and green: cup double; leaves by threes; stem short, and shrubby.

DESCRIPTION.

Stem upright, low, and branching; the smaller branches are spreading, numerous, and whorled.

Leaves by threes, linear, obtuse, straight, and smooth.

Flowers grow by threes at the ends of the smaller branches, and hang down, with scarcely any footstalks.

Empalement. Cup double; the outer one is three-leaved; the inner one four-leaved; the leaflets are broadly ovate at the base, and on the upper part awl-shaped.

Blossom club-shaped and green; the segments of the border are upright.
