Complete in all three persons singular and plural:
- Měl bych to koupiti (I ought to buy it)
- Mohla jsem to udělati (I could have done it)
- Nevím-li to (If I don’t know it)
- Smím si vzíti růži? (May I take the rose)?
Exercise.—Translate into English:
Komu jsi odevzdal knihu? Dal jsem ji jemu. Dal jsem ji jí. Ptáte se, zdali se rádi učíme. Ovšem, že se rádi učíme, neboť jest to prospěšné. “Rád bych věděl, zdali sestra přijela,” řekl pan Kovář své matce. Co myslíte, bude pršeti, čili nic? Kdož ví, bude-li dnes pršet. Nedáte-li peníze, odejdu. Otec mi slíbil dollar, budu-li hodný. Vezmi si to jablko! Kde je bratr? Matka šla s ním do zahrady. Já nesmím, matka mi nedovolila. To nesmíš dělati! Karel IV. byl velikým a mocným panovníkem, jím byly založeny důležité a památné budovy. Jednou s ním vyjednávali poslové němečtí, aby jim dopřál té milosti a přestěhoval se do Němec. Došel jsem k nim a promluvil jsem s nimi. Pozdravil jsem ji a tázal jsem se jí, zdali by mi pomohla.
Exercise.—Translate into Bohemian:
Did he lend you (thee) any books? The postman brought them some letters. Where did you meet her? He gave me some drawings for him. Don’t go to her, for I am sure that she is not home. Did you hear my words? Yes, we heard them. Some gentlemen came with him. They (the soldiers) were sent to Europe. They (the ladies) worked with the Red Cross hospital. We heard from them. Where did you see them? They shall come to help them. Tell me all you know about him! I shall never do anything against them, for (neboť) they (the men) are my friends. If you wish to see the letter, here it is. We shall wait if we have time. I should have waited for him had I had time. I should be very glad if you went with me. Ask your friend if he will be here tomorrow. May I speak to you? Ask him, if he knows it.
