§ 38. On the Orthography of a Great Many Verbs of the First Conjugation.

1. Verbs ending in ger, whenever through the tenses the g comes in contact with a or o, insert an e between them, as:

Nous changeons, we change.
Je changeais, I changed.

2. Verbs ending in yer change the y to i before e, es, ent, as: ennuyer.

Je m'ennuie, I am weary.
Je m'ennuierai, I shall be weary

3. Verbs ending in cer, whenever through the tenses the c comes in contact with a or o, it takes a cedilla (ç), as: avancer, etc.
